Jenny Colgan writes a comical story of love, sabotage and revenge in the run-up to the wedding of the century.
What is one to do when an old school friend who made life difficult announces that she is getting married and to someone she never even liked? Sabotage the relationship and get the wedding called off, of course! When Fran and Mel find out that their old school friend, Amanda, is getting married and to Fraser McConnald nonetheless, they cannot believe it. Even worse is the fact that Fraser seems unaware of Amanda’s selfish and manipulative ways. There is only one thing to do, attend all the wedding preparations and parties, whilst trying to show Fraser the error of his ways but will they succeed? Amanda’s Wedding – The Main CharactersMel and Fran have been friends forever, having gone to comprehensive school together in Woking. Fran is around at Mel’s so often that she practically lives there. Amanda also went to the same comprehensive school but when she and Mel headed off to Durham University, Amanda decided it was time to move with a different, more posh crowd, leaving Mel and Fran in the dust. Fraser McConnald is a Scottish laird who attended Durham University wearing the same pair of Converse trainers for three years in a row. His brother Angus has travelled down from Scotland in order to help with the wedding and he takes an instant dislike to Amanda. Who Says Females Cannot Attend Stag Nights?Without an initial invitation to Amanda’s hen night, Mel and Fran are stuck having to come up with another way to convince Fraser of his grave mistake; so what better way than to attend his stag night and dish the dirt on Amanda. However, in the end things do not go to plan for everyone involved and result in one interesting stripper, a kissing session that turns into a sob story and one very fascinating bathroom conversation. The Wedding of the CenturyWith a passion for expanding his home and spoiling his daughter, Amanda’s father plans to spare no expense when it comes to her wedding; Amanda and Fraser’s wedding promises to be the wedding of the century. Although, will that be because of the amazing decorations and good food or due to the smoke bombs at the church and the late arrival of one member of the wedding party? Amanda’s Wedding is a laugh-out-loud novel. Her characters are bound to resonate with each reader, reminding them of at least one person who fits the role of those in the book. Colgan takes the traditional wedding, romantic comedy story and rewrites the script into something funny, endearing and intriguing. Amanda’s Wedding, the debut novel from Jenny Colgan, was originally published in 2000 by HarperCollins Publishers LTD (ISBN: 978-0006531760).
