At the moment Rose and Maggie Feller never want to see each other again, they understand that a sister is forever, especially when they have the same size feet.

Jennifer Weiner

In Her Shoes is Jennifer Weiner's second novel that spent several weeks on the New York Times Bestseller List. Her first novel, Good in Bed also opened to rave reviews and a stint on the New York Times Bestseller List. Jennifer attended Princeton University and upon graduation became a journalist, writing for newspapers in Pennsylvania and Kentucky. She also has several short stories published in Seventeen Magazine and Redbook. Her powerful and humorous writing style can be seen in all of her books, but most notably in In Her Shoes through the "every woman" character Rose Feller.

In Her Shoes

Rose Feller, a successful 30 year old attorney, has everything going for her including a passionate affair with the boss and a clost packed with the most chic designer shoes on the planet. But, Rose Feller is also insecure about her weight and insecure about finding the perfect man who will fulfill all of her ridiculously romantic fantasies.

Rose also has a sister, Maggie. Maggie is 28 and had her left hip appear in a Will Smith music video. She currently has no job and relies on her gorgeous good looks to get her by. When that doesn't work, she turns to Rose. The are only a few things Rose and Maggie have in common:

  • They come from the same parents.
  • They have the same size feet
  • They share a history that includes a tragedy

That's where the similarities end. Rose and Maggie Feller are on two different paths with little hope of ever getting back on track with each other. Rose sees Maggie as irresponsible while Maggie sees Rose as fat. The two are driven apart even farther after Rose catches Maggie in a compromising position with Rose's boyfriend.

Jennifer Weiner takes readers on a journey through hate and redemption through the eyes of Rose and Maggie. In the process, the sisters find out exactly who they are, fix their flaws, and make amends with the past through their grandmother in Florida. They learn that there is more to being a sister than sharing a foot size. They learn that the only way they are ever going to make it through life is if they lean on each other.

Overall, In Her Shoes is an endearing story that is sure to capture the attention and love of readers across the country. Rose and Maggie Feller are so real that they'll jump off the page and convince you that you're not reading their story; you're watching it. Jennifer Weiner takes chick lit to a different level by creating meaningful characters with meaningful problems. Bravo.
